The Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) is the international licensing organization of the wine industry. The Intermediate Certificate in Wines and Spirits is the official diploma, recognised worldwide. The course provides a systematic framework for tasting and evaluating wine, as well as an overview of all the major wine growing regions and grape varieties in the world. It involves recommended home study of 14 hours prior to the course, which culminates in a one-hour examination. There is no obligation to sit the exam unless you intend to work in the wine trade, but we highly recommend doing so, to consolidate your wine knowledge in a lasting way.
A proprietary certification designed to complement the theoretical framework of the WSET through experience-based learning in viticulture, winemaking and wine-tasting. It takes advantage of the opportunity to be based at a high-end boutique winery to focus on the practices and conditions that characterize fine wine, in order to improve appreciation. The course content has been designed by Master of Wine Clive Barlow, and units include projects in the vineyard; making your own assemblage; purchasing and ordering wine, organizing and maintaining a cellar, and matching food and wine.
Special consideration has been given to extracurricular activities so as to reinforce the classroom learning with fun and creative exercises and ‘wine games’. Unique to Extreme Wine, these activities are specially designed to enhance the impact of the more formal parts of the course and the overall enjoyment of your stay.
